TWENTY seven-year-old Promise Aboyowa is in dire straits. The  unemployed first school leaving certificiate holder, and father of one, hails who from Abigborodo in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, is a victim of kerosene explosion.
Promise plight is worsened by absence of his wife, Alero, who fled home since the unfortunate incident.
Narrating his ordeal, Promise said he woke up on the morning of October 8, 2011, completely normal and full of life. “By 8.00am, I proceded  to the kitchen to light up the kerosene stove in an attempt to prepare my breakfast. As it was usual, my wife had left home to hawk her wares.
By his attempts to light up the stove were proving unsuccessful and on closer examination, he discovered there wasn’t enough kerosene in it. It did not occur to Promise to put out the fire in the stove before pouring additional kerosene in the reservoir. It was in the process of pouring  kerosene into the stove that an explosion ensued.
Before he knew it, fire had engulfed the whole kitchen, leaving him severely burnt. His screams for help attracted neighbours who came to the rescue, put out the fire abd  rushed him to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara, where one Dr. Lawrence treated placed him in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Promise was in the ICU for three months.
A few months after he was discharged,  the burnt parts of his body which had already healed, began sprouting abnormal growths.
Most affected are his mouth, hands and  legs. Promise was taken back to the hospital where his doctor referred him to Germany for  plastic  reconstructive surgery estimated to cost N3 million.
Currently, Promise who is jobless is completely dependent on the goodwill of kind hearted persons to survive. He can no longer perform menial jobs to sustain himself and his daughter because his badly burned fingers have stiffened and made unuseable with the abnormal growth.
Promise is soliciting for  assistance from kind hearted Nigerians to raise the required sum and travel abroad for the plastic surgery.
