Determined to provide a virile platform for proper recognition and to celebrate success, innovation, growth and excellence in Nigeria's health sector, the Global Health Project and Resources (GHPR) in colaboration with Anadach Group, USA has instituted the Nigerian Health Care Excellence Awards (NHEA).
Backed by the Federal Ministry of Health and other professional and regulatory health bodies, nominations for the maiden edition of the NHEA is ongoing.
Speaking on the awards at a press briefing in Lagos, Project Coordinator, Dr. Shola Alabi said over 43 individuals and organisations have been nominated for the various corporate and individual categories listed for recognition. "NHEA is aimed at recognising the rapid growth in the health care sector and the capacity of individuals and corporate organisations to influence and set new performance standards in Nigeria and beyond," Alabi said.
He added that Prof. Soyibo Adedoyin, an expert in Health Economics, University of Ibadan is the Chairman of the Advisory Board while Dr. Jim Rice, Project Director, Management Science of Health, USA is the Chairman of the Jury/Selection Committee.
According to the promoter of the awards, Dr. Lanre Alabi it has a total of 16 categories which include; The Lifetime Achievements Award, Outstanding State Government Health care Programme of the Year, Outstanding CSR Health Project of the Year, Health care Media Excellence, Private Health care Provider of the Year, Public Health care Provider of the Year, Laboratory service provider of the Year, and Radiology Service Provider of the Year, among many others.
Dr. Egbe Osifo-Dawodu, founding Partner, Anadach Group and previously an Adviser at the World Bank Institute says, "NHEA will be credible and objective. Measures have been put in place, especially in the selection of the award jury'.
GHPR is also the organiser of the West African Health Expo, which has proved over the years to be an international hub for health care and health education exhibition. As part of its effort to increase the visibility and successes of the health sector in Nigeria, it decided to organize this award that will celebrate and recognize the efforts of individuals and organisations.
According to the promoter, the aims and objectives of the award include: Suggest policy framework for achieving global standards of healthcare across the country, to converge all stakeholders on one platform and arrive at consensual solutions on a variety of issues, facilitate sharing of knowledge and best practices and create awareness and interface with innovative health care practices, quality assurance mechanisms and marketing concepts.
Others are: Provide a workable template/model for accrediting health care organisation, recognise excellence in health care delivery, position recipients as market leaders in health care areas in Nigeria and validate recipients' efforts and give a vote of confidence that attract and retain talents, among others.
Other members of the Advisory Board are: Dr. Omolola Anthony, National President, Association of General Private Medicine Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), Mr. M.S.O Nwachukwu, President Association of Medical Laboratory Science Nigeria (AMLSN), Prof. Abiodun Ilesanmi, former Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital, Ibadan, Mr. Ifeanyi Atueyi, Publisher, Pharmanews, Mrs. Njide Ndidi, CEO, Lion Stone Group, Mr. Sanni Bello, Special Adviser to the Minister of Health and Dr. Leke Pitan, African Representative, International Hospital Federation.
