Dr. Jibril Abudullahi, a gynaecologist at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, says change in position during sex can help reduce the probability of urinary tract infection in women.Abdullahi told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that urinary tract infection could be easily contracted when women indulge in harmful lifestyle. He added that good personal hygiene coupled with other healthy lifestyle of an individual could help women in preventing urinary tract infection.

He said: “A change in position during sex may help reduce the possibility of being infected because it reduces the friction on the urethra.“Having multiple sexual partners contributes to

New Updates For Pregnant Travellers

The safest time to fly during pregnancy is before 37 weeks or, if carrying twins, before 32 weeks, new advice says. The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists says flying is not harmful during a low-risk pregnancy, but there may be side-effects. If more than 28 weeks pregnant, a woman should take her medical notes and a GP’s letter. Many airlines have their own rules on when pregnant women can fly. It is important to discuss any health issues or pregnancy complications with your midwife or doctor before you fly”

Although everyone who flies is exposed to a slight increase in radiation, there is no evidence that flying causes miscarriage, early labour or a woman’s waters to break. The changes in air pressure and the decrease in humidity on an aircraft have not been shown to

Food Of The Day- Moimoi

Moimoi or Moyi-Moyi is a Nigerian steamed bean pudding made from a mixture of washed and peeled black-eyed peas, onions and fresh ground peppers (usually a combination of bell peppers and chili or scotch bonnet). It is a protein-rich food that is a staple in Nigeria. Some adaptations also put apples in MoiMoi. It originated from either Eastern Nigerian or South-West Nigeria.
MoiMoi is prepared by first soaking the beans in cold water until they are soft enough to remove the fine outer covering or peel. Then they are ground or blended (using a blender) until a fine paste is achieved. Salt, bouillon cube, dried crayfish, vegetable oil (or any edible oil such as palm oil) and other seasonings are added to taste. Some add sardines, corned beef, sliced boiled eggs, or a combination of these and other 'garnishes' to liven up MoiMoi. Such is referred to as having 'x' number of lives, 'x' representing the number of garnishes added. The most touted is "MoiMoi elemi meje", which translates to Moi Moi with 7 lives.
Moi Moi usually comes in a slanted pyramid shape or a cylindrical shape, owing to the mold it is poured into prior to cooking. The pyramid shape comes from the traditional broad "ewe eran" (Thaumatococcus daniellii) or banana leaves fashioned into a cone in one's palm, then the seasoned and garnished liquid is poured into the leaves, which is then folded.
The cylindrical shapes come from empty cans of tomato sauce used in preparation of other dishes. Once placed in its mold, it is placed in a large pot about a tenth filled with water. The water is the source of steam that cooks the MoiMoi. MoiMoi is eaten alone or with bread as a snack, with rice as a meal or with ogi (corn or millet porridge) for breakfast or supper. it can also be taken with garri in the afternoon.

Have A Fruitful A Day- Guava

Guavas (singular guava, are common tropical fruits cultivated and enjoyed in many tropical and subtropical regions. Psidium guajava(common guava, lemon guava) is a small tree in the Myrtle family (Myrtaceae), native to MexicoCentral America, and northern South America. Although related species may also be called guavas, they actually belong to other genera, such as the "strawberry guava"
Guavas are rich in dietary fiber and vitamin C, with moderate levels of folic acid. Having a generally broad, low-calorie profile of essential nutrients, a single common guava fruit contains about four times the amount of vitamin C as an orange.
However, nutrient content varies across guava cultivars. Although the strawberry guava has only 25% of the amount found in more common varieties, its total vitamin C content in one serving (90 mg) still provides 100% of the Dietary Reference Intake.

Phytochemicals

Guavas contain both carotenoids and polyphenols like (+)-gallocatechin and leucocyanidin.[8][9] As some of these phytochemicals produce the fruit skin and flesh color, guavas that are red-orange tend to have more polyphenol.

Guava seed oil

Guava seed oil is rich in linoleic acid. Guava seed oil can be used for culinary uses, pharmaceuticals or cosmetics. In the cosmetic industry, the oil is used in skin care products. The moisture retention properties found in guava seed oil are valued. Guava oil is a source of beta carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C, copper, zinc and selenium.Since the 1950s, guavas – particularly the leaves – have been studied for their constituents, potential biological properties and history in folk medicine. In Trinidad and Brazil, a tea made from young leaves is thought to be useful for diarrhoea, dysentery or fever.

Hmmmn, this matter no be here oh!!!! It is a sad sad situation......

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest over the non-payment of their outstanding seven month salaries.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the doctors, who were dressed in their medical kits, went round the hospital complex chanting various anti-management songs.
They also displayed placards with various inscriptions, including “Many Doctors are still being Owed Seven Months Salary; LUTH Management, Ministry of Health, Accountant-General of the Federation and Budget Office Enough is Enough’’.
“No Respite yet on Poor Water and Power Supply; Inadequate Materials and Consumables; Non-payment of our December Salary, and “Stagnation of Many Doctors for Years at same Salary Grade Level”.
The President of the association, Dr Ramon Moronkola, told NAN that the protest was to press for the payment of salaries of 700 resident doctors in the hospital.
Moronkola said that resident doctors who were being owed included registrars, senior registrars and house officers of the hospital.
“This protest is to register our displeasure over the non-payment of our seven months’ salary since July, 2014 till date.
“Depending on our different cadres, some have not been paid December salary; the issue of stagnation of salary grade level and non-payment of three months pension refund.
“The poor working conditions in LUTH such as epileptic power supply and lack of water supply are not helping our training.
“We have had meetings with the management but nothing is being done to address these issues.
“We had the worst Christmas and New Year celebrations because we were not paid and yet, we have been patient and diligent at our work,’’ he said.
Moronkola, however, urged the Federal Ministry of Health, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Budget Office and the LUTH management to do the needful and alleviate the sufferings of doctors.

Rabies

Rabies is a zoonotic disease (a disease that is transmitted to humans from animals) that is caused by a virus. The disease infects domestic and wild animals, and is spread to people through close contact with infected saliva via bites or scratches.

Key facts

  • Rabies is a vaccine-preventable viral disease which occurs in more than 150 countries and territories.
  • Infection causes tens of thousands of deaths every year, mostly in Asia and Africa.
  • 40% of people who are bitten by suspect rabid animals are children under 15 years of age.
  • Dogs are the source of the vast majority of human rabies deaths.
  • Immediate wound cleansing and immunization within a few hours after contact with a suspect rabid animal can prevent the onset of rabies and death.
  • Every year, more than 15 million people worldwide receive a post-exposure vaccination to prevent the disease – this is estimated to prevent hundreds of thousands of rabies deaths annually.
Rabies is present on all continents with the exception of Antarctica, but more than 95% of

16 And Pregnant… But Other Than That, I’m Cool

MTV’s 16 and Pregnant and its spinoff Teen Mom were conceived as a way to warn young women about the pitfalls of unprotected self. Nothing wrong with that, it beats watching videos on Gonorrhoea during health class. But MTV has taken something pure and turned it into exploitation, and now teen pregnancy in America is seen as cute instead of tragic.
Get Pregnant, deal with the asshole boyfriend, have the baby, the boy comes back and it’s all good. Or your mother agrees to take care of the baby while you continue to slut around with your friends. That’s what the show boils down to– happy endings for all.
If you’re a 15 year old girl why the fuck would you want to have safe sex? Get pregnant you fool! MTV is telling you not only will everything work out after a few tough moments, but it’s

Drink Of The Day- Smoothie

A smoothie (alternatively spelled Smoothi, smoothee or smoothy, the name comes from the smooth property of the emulsion) is a blended and sometimes sweetened beverage made from fresh fruit (fruit smoothie), vegetables and in special cases can contain chocolate or peanut butter. In addition to fruit, many smoothies include crushed ice, frozen fruit, honey or contain syrup and ice ingredients. They have a milkshake-like consistency that is thicker than slushdrinks. They can also contain milk, yogurt or ice cream. Smoothies are often marketed to health-conscious people, and some restaurants offer add-ins such as soy milk, whey powder, green tea, herbal supplements, or nutritional supplement mixes.
The electric blender gave birth to the smoothie in the United States. The word "smoothie" was first coined by Mabel Stegner on June 23, 1940 in an article titled "Let the blender do it for you!" published in the New York Herald Tribune (p. 14-15). Concerning ingredients she wrote: "For instance, place a few ounces of milk, fruit juice, tomato juice or any desired liquid in the food container [of the blender]. Add a banana, or strawberries, or pitted cherries, or diced vegetables, Place the container on the base, switch on the electricity and in less than a minute out comes a banana milk 'smoothie,' a fruit nectar, or a raw vegetable cocktail.
The earliest known use of the word "smoothee" also appeared in 1940 and also in connection with the newly commercialized electric blender. That year the Waring Corporation, founded by the popular bandleader Fred Waring, published its first little booklet of recipes titled "Recipes to Make Your Waring-Go-Round," which contained 12 early recipes for "milk smoothees." Waring had hired Mabel Stegner, B.S., a Home Economics Consultant from the University of Wisconsin, to develop the recipes.
Smoothies were first made in the homes of those who owned an electric blender: power blender, immersion blender, hand blender. They became widely available in the United States in the late 1960s when ice cream vendors and health food stores began selling them. By the 1990s and 2000s, smoothies became available at mainstream cafés and coffee shops and in pre-bottled versions at supermarkets all over the world.

Tomorrow's Mothers 'Need Help With Obesity '

A major European obesity investigation has called for urgent action to prevent obesity in women of child-bearing age.  The authors, including a team from Edinburgh University, say children born to overweight mothers are at greater risk of health problems in later life. They say every pregnant woman should have access to dieticians and psychologists to help protect the health of their future children.
During the three-year project several pieces of research were consulted.

Long-term consequences
In one of the most extensive studies to question whether the health of mothers-to-be can have long-term consequences on their offspring, scientists pulled together several pieces of research across Europe.  One key study, involving 13,000 individuals, revealed that babies born to overweight mothers are more likely to suffer
heart disease or strokes or develop type 2 diabetes in later life.  Another analysis from Edinburgh University found that obese women eat a diet richer in saturated fats and poorer in vitamins and minerals during their pregnancy compared to slim women.
In early work, including animal studies, scientists found the placenta of females who ate a high fat diet offered less protection to the foetus from the stress hormone, cortisol.  Offspring were more likely to be small and to suffer mood disorders in later life. Overall project leader Dr Patricia Iozzo, from the National Research Council, Pisa, Italy, said: "Attention needs to be devoted to the prevention of obesity and becoming overweight among young girls, representing tomorrow's mothers."
Dr Iozzo says the period at the end of pregnancy is particularly important. Her work suggests babies' metabolic health - including the fats and sugars in their blood - may be worse if mothers put on unhealthy amounts of weight at this time. "I feel the message is a positive one. Mothers can do a lot during pregnancy to look after the future health of their children. They must under no circumstances stop eating though. They should ensure they have a balanced diet and make sure they are physically active. And I think every mother should have access to a team of health workers during pregnancy - including not just midwives and obstetricians but psychologists and dieticians too."

10 Thing s You Probably Didn't know About Your Tongue

Human tongue is the most ignored organ, of course except special times. However, it is one of the most interesting organs in our body. We cannot live without brainheart or lungs but we can live without our tongue. However, that does not mean that we don’t need it. This particular organ is important because it helps us to taste our food! There are other important functions of tongue as well.
  • It comes in different shapes and can have a variable number of taste buds, the human tongue imprint is as variable as thumb imprints
  • Our tongue has a very unique property. It is incapable of detecting taste if it is dry. This means that if you place a piece of lemon on a dry tongue, you will not be able to tell that it is sour. The tongue gets its ability to sense taste only in the presence of saliva that keeps it moist.
  • Contrary to popular belief, tests on identical twins have proven that the ability to roll one's tongue into a tube is not a genetic trait
  • Tongue cleaning with a tongue scrapper is proven to help prevent heart attack
  • Tongue is not the only place where taste buds live. Taste buds can also be found on the inside of our cheeks, on lips, on the roof of our mouth and even under the tongue.

Midnight Series-Women: How To Build Your Roster (EXPLICIT R18)

I proclaimed that all single women should date multiple men, not fuck, not suck, not even kiss multiple men, just date. Travel outside the house to do fun bonding activities during the course of several weeks and get to know each other in order to see if there is anything more to your relationship than jokes and sexual chemistry– that’s called dating. It’s a simple concept, but getting most women to actually do it is like trying to baptize a cat. I expected men to say, “Let a bitch try to make me one of many, that’ll be the last time I take that ho out.” No man is going to agree to compete. In a male’s mind, you should delete every contact with a dick the moment he asks your name. That’s male ego, not world logic. However the most vocal argument against dating multiple men comes from women. The counter is that it’s unnatural for women to split their attention. As a woman it’s better to invest your time in energy in showing that ONE MAN that you just met that you are wife material. There is no need to continue to entertain other guys who were there before or get new numbers if you get a “feeling” that this ONE MAN could be the last man you ever have to date. Fuck your thirsty ass “feeling” that’s nothing but wishful thinking. Has this man communicated that he feels the same way and more importantly has this Superman verbally committed to being with you or nah? …Nah, he’s just dating you dumb ass. Sure he’s blowing smoke up your booty as if he’s getting really close to cuffing you, but that’s talk. You are still single. Call him baby, boo, but the b-word that you can’t call him is boyfriend, therefore, I repeat, YOU. ARE. STILL. SINGLE. Do you realize only dating one man is the same as saying, “I’m waiting on you, because I already know that I can’t find any better men.” Is he that great or are you that desperate?

Pay Doctors their Salaries ---- Jimi Agbaje tells LASG

PDP Governorship aspirant, Jimi Agbaje has urged the Lagos State Government to pay Doctors threatening to go on strike, saying it is their right because they worked for it. Agbaje says Lagos is a mega city that cannot allow its health practitioners be on strike. Here what he said in a statement released by his Media Aide, Mr Remi Adefulu.

“My heart bleeds over this avoidable strike because I find it unbelievable that the state is making the poor masses suffer unduly due to a minor issue like salaries, which is the right of every worker. Government the world over is about the people, but are the people not the ones suffering?. Something urgent should be done by government to alleviate their sufferings and prevent avoidable deaths. Let me assure Lagosians that hope is on the way, as our administration knows the importance of a healthy people to national development. As I have said repeatedly during our campaigns, our administration shall introduce a free health insurance scheme that would be beneficial to Lagosians and service providers. The system is working all over the world, and our people deserve to benefit from this globally-acclaimed best practice in the health sector,” he said.

Frequent Anger Damages The Heart –Study

…It causes wear and tear on the heart and cardiovascular system
If you are one of those that yell and smash things around at every little provocation or get repeatedly furious at every turn of event on a daily basis? then it’s time to keep that temper in check – at least for the sake of your heart! A new study found people who experience severe anger outbursts more at risk for stroke, heart attack and other cardiovascular disease, after two hours of the outburst, compared to those who remained calm. The research published recently in the European Heart Journal, analyzed nine studies of anger outbursts where patients who had had heart attacks, stroke and related problems were reported for over two decades. The studies found that in the two hours after an outburst of anger, the relative risk of heart attack and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) – when the heart muscle doesn’t get enough oxygen-rich blood, increased by nearly five times, while the risk of ischemic stroke and cardiac arrhythmia increased by more than three times.

According to the study, a person with preexisting heart disease or cardiovascular disease has greater risk of incurring an attack, than a person without cardiovascular disease or risk

Tapeworm Can Give You Epilepsy

Tapeworm
No matter how many times we talk about worm infestation, we can never run out of ideas! This is because worms are more dangerous than you can ever imagine; and in general, overall wellbeing is impossible if traces of worm infestation is present in the intestine. Of importance is the presence of tapeworm in the body. Physicians say that by the time the tapeworm grows into an adult in the human gut, it causes Taeniasis – an intestinal infection.Experts say Taeniasis is acquired by humans through the inadvertent ingestion of tapeworm larval cysts in undercooked pork or beef. Even if you take care to cook your beef or pork, the experts warn that touching other food items that you’re likely to eat raw such as fruits or ready-made foods such as bread could lead to the transfer of this worm’s larvae into your guts! “This underscores the importance of hand hygiene at all times, especially after you have handled raw meats,” says Family Physician, Dr. Gbola Ibrahim.

Midnight Series- Bae Envy: Has Jealousy Made Women More Compromising (EXPLICIT R18)

Women love to tear each other down… correction, insecure women love to tear other women down. This slandering usually happens in their head, in front of their keyboard, or behind that rival woman’s back when in the company of a fellow hater. I saw one of these shade throwing memes on instagram… we all know basic bitches push out slander memes like hood chicks push out fatherless children. This one went something like “These men say they want a Bad Bitch, when they should be after a woman that takes cares of her responsibilities blah blah blah something about goals blah blah blah something about education” At that moment it dawned on me that I’ve never seen a woman that’s happy (not Facebook happy, real life happy) and content focus on what men say they want in another woman. I’ve spent time with extremely successful females and I can’t recall a side-comment being made about fake hair or ass shots. Only when I turn to the internet do I see so much animosity by women directed at other women and the men who choose them. Confident

Your Toilet Paper Might Be Secretly Injuring You

Your choice in TP really does matter. You probably don’t give your toilet paper use much thought — you just wipe with it and go about your day, like you’ve done for most of your life. But according to experts, toilet paper isn’t always as harmless as it seems. The fluffy stuff can do everything from irritate your privates to actually cut you down there. While it sounds like an urban myth, “getting micro-cuts from toilet paper is not as uncommon as one would think,” says Marc Leavey, MD, an internist at Baltimore’s Mercy Medical Centre.
Here’s how it can happen: There’s a wide variety of TP on the market with a range of softness. Some cheaper toilet paper tends to be on the coarse side, essentially acting like sandpaper against your privates, says Leavey. Certain environmentally friendly toilet papers made from recycled materials can also pose an issue since fibers are stripped from the original paper pulp during processing, which typically reduces the TP’s softness.

The Controversial HPV Vaccine: The Only Vaccine That Prevents Cancer

Just-released clinical trial results reveal that the new HPV vaccine provides even more protection against cancers than before. But, according to a new survey from Planned Parenthood, parents still have not warmed up to it.HPV, or the human papillomavirus, is the most common sexually transmitted disease (STD) in the world. The virus can resolve itself in the body on its own, but many cases can eventually result in anal, cervical, mouth and throat, penile, vaginal and vulvar cancers.
And while a vaccine exists to prevent HPV and its future side effects — the only cancer-preventing vaccine currently in existence — only 37.6 percent of girls and 13.9 percent of boys ages 13-17 got all three doses of the vaccine in 2013. In a survey shared exclusively with Yahoo Health, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and NYU’s Center

Hernia- Paediatricians Urges Parents To Seek Early Help

A Pediatrician with the National Hospital, Abuja, Dr Kunle Otuneyem, on Friday advised mothers to consult their doctors when they observe abnormal swelling around the scrotums of their male children. Otuneye told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the abnormal swelling could be identified as hernia when diagnosed by a doctor.

According to him, hernia, which is common in male children, is usually an abnormal opening in the body cavity where the internal organs passes through.“The common type of hernia in children is the inguinal and umbilical hernia, inguinal occurs when tissue pushes through a weak spot in the groin muscle. “Most inguinal hernias happen because an opening in the muscle wall does not close before birth as it should. The umbilical involve protrusion of intra abdominal contents through a weakness at the site of passage of the umbilical cord through the abdominal wall,” Otuneye said.
He said there are different kinds of hernia, each requiring a specific management or treatment. Otuneye

Bleeding In Pregnant Women is Deadly – Gynaecologist

Dr Moses Fache, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, says bleeding in pregnancy is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality. Fache, of NISA Premier Hospital , Jabi, Abuja, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.
He said that bleeding in pregnancy was abnormal as it threatens the well-being of both mother and the foetus. He therefore, stressed the need to treat such a condition urgently, to arrest the cause. “Bleeding in pregnancy and abnormal bleeding during and after birth signify abnormality that should be treated urgently.” According to him, bleeding early in pregnancy is referred to as “threatened miscarriage” , meaning that the woman was at risk of losing the pregnancy.

He explained that such a situation was caused by abnormalities in the developing fetus.“Some of these abnormalities cannot be prevented but in some cases, avoiding drugs

‘21 Million Nigerians Have Psychiatric Disorder’

With the population of persons in Nigeria who needs psychiatric attention, it is worrisome that the country has a few neuropsychiatric hospitals and trained psychiatrists. The Medical Director, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital (FNH),Yaba, Lagos, Dr. Rahman Lawal in this interview with Martins Ifijeh talked about the need for state governments to set up neuropsychiatric hospitals in their various states, among other related issues
The challenges as the medical director of FNH
I wouldn’t say there are no challenges, because management in itself is all about challenges. Specialist hospitals like ours are associated with challenges ranging from administrative, running of the hospital, trying to put up infrastructure and majorly financial challenges.
These challenges are there, because we are constantly looking for ways to improve our quality of services as this is what we owe the people. Our believe is that, as we continue to push, we will be able to raise standard and quality of practice to meet international standard such that wherever one comes from anywhere in the world, we’ll be able to give such persons quality health care as it is obtained in developed countries.
Challenges that have been surmounted
Life is all about continuos exercise, but so far, we have tried in terms of infrastructural

NAFDAC to Set Pace For Food Safety In Africa.

    By Martins Ifijeh
Barely two weeks after the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and United States Pharmacopeia (USP) awarded National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) with ISO/IEC 17025:2005 certification, the agency is on the verge of being declared the regional centre for food safety, a feat that has never been attained in the country. This is as its food laboratory in Oshodi has been pre-selected by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as Africa’s Regional Designated Centre (RDC) for food safety.
While announcing the international body’s intention, experts of IAEA, Prof. Eric Mitema and Ardjouma Dembele, in collaboration, said they are sure that Nigeria will meet the basic requirements needed for its approval as Africa’s RDC for food safety. They spoke during the media briefing of the pre-selection phase in Lagos recently.
Mitema explained that it will mean that the agency can generate money for the country

Midnight Series- Bitch, Get Over Yourself (EXPLICIT R18)

Your heart wasn’t the first heart to be broken, but to listen to you carry on about all the ways you’ve been hurt we would think you invented pain. Here’s a rude awakening: Your high school love that was with you for all those years, went through that pregnancy scare with you, only to leave you after graduation—he’s nothing new. That kid at your university who understood you on an adult level, showed you his vulnerability, swore you were his soul mate, only to stop calling after one summer with no explanation—he’s the norm. You stood by a man who was broke or struggling, and expected loyalty that never came—get in line. You fell for a man who proved himself your equal and all you asked for was his love, but he gave it to another bitch behind your back for reasons you can’t figure out—join the club. You had a kid by a man that used to be so sweet and loving, and now your blood boils at the mention of his name because he switched up and abandoned you—where have we heard that before? Betrayal, growing apart, falling out of love, realizing that he never really loved you on that unconditional level, it’s not unique. Your play may have a few different lines and scenes, but it’s the same damn production every woman has or will go through. The answer isn’t to be cynical and go through life expecting to be curved, but when it does happen you can choose to rebound instead of run.

The difference between those women that conquer heartbreak and grow stronger, and the ones who bitterly hold on to that hurt has nothing to do with DNA. Doctors in the employ of the Lagos State Government have begun a three-day warning strike. They also warned that if the authorities did not meet their demands, which include the payment of their May 2012 as well as August/September 2014 salaries by March 4, they would embark on a full-scale action. The state Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr. Bisi Kufo, made this known on Tuesday in Lagos. The diagnosis made sense at the time; after all, Joseph had experienced mood dips throughout her teens. She was prescribed an antidepressant, found a psychiatrist and started talk therapy.
