|Gov. Rabi'u Kwankwaso|
This is the tenth time the government is destroying huge consignments of such products in the past two years, which according to analysts, is a breakthrough in the Kwankwaso administration’s war against sale and consumption of illicit drugs in Kano State. Speaking shortly after setting the drugs on fire, Governor Kwankwaso explained that the drugs were intercepted at various places within Kano city by the state Task Force on Drugs.
The governor reiterated that his administration is determined to get rid of all kinds of fake drugs and adulterated food items because of their significant health implications. He said so far illicit, counterfeit, expired and fake drugs worth N4billion have been destroyed by the state government in the last three and a half years.
He expressed happiness that the committee set up by the government, in collaboration with relevant authorities prosecuting the anti-drug war, are impounding vehicles transporting illegal drugs, announcing that such vehicles will also be destroyed to discourage commercial drivers from conniving with the drugs pedlars. Governor Kwankwaso directed the committee responsible for the confiscation of illicit drugs and adulterated food items to put in more effort to arrest and prosecute the drug dealers and their accomplices.
