Updates; Health Workers Strike- Union Dismisses NMA Death Threat Allegation

By Timothy Enietan-Matthews
The Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, has dismissed as baseless and borne out of ignorance, the the allegation recently raised by the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, that the lives of its members were being threatened by its members.
This was disclosed by the chairman of JOHESU, Federal Capital Territory Chapter, Maduka Maduabuchi, at a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.
The FCT JOHESU boss warned the NMA to desist from making what he described as grave
allegation, urging it to tender an apology within the next few days or the union will be forced to take drastic measures against NMA.Maduabuchi, therefore, called on the police, DSS and the FCT Hospital Management Board to investigate the allegations raised by NMA in an effort to put the records straight.
“This is more so bearing in mind that healthcare is a team work. We call on the FCT Administration to investigate this matter and to admonish Dr. Akerele and the NMA/ARD to abstain from acts capable of creating fear and doubt in the minds of patients attending FCTA hospitals.
“This is a great disservice to the efforts of the FCTA Minister, the Health and Human Services Secretariat and the Hospitals Management Board to provide quality healthcare for the people of the FCT.
“We call on the Police, the DSS and other security agencies to disregard the frivolous allegations of ARD /NMA FCT chapter.”
