The Joint Health Professionals of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Teaching Hospital, Osogbo have raised alarm over their continuous abandonment by the Oyo State government, which jointly owns the institution with Osun state.
The workers alleged that the Oyo State government has failed to contribute its quota to the teaching hospital against the edit which established the institution, as Governor Abiola Ajimobi refused to pay salary of LTH staff.
Addressing a press conference in Osogbo today, Chairman of the Joint Health Professionals (JHP) of the hospital, Comrade Adeyeye Adetunji-Tam said Oyo state government has failed to keep faith with the joint agreement it reached with Osun State on the ownership and administration of the hospital.
The hospital, established in 1992 by the Osun and Oyo state governments was enmeshed in ownership crisis in 2009 following the decision of the Oyo state government to establish a new teaching hospital in Ogbomosho.
However, upon assumption of office by Governors Abiola Ajimobi and Rauf Aregbesola of Oyo and Osun states respectively, both states agreed to continue with the joint ownership of the hospital, until recently when the Oyo state government began to default in the payment of its counterpart fund.
Mr Adetunji-Tam pointed out that there was a Supreme Court judgment which compelled the two states to sustain the joint ownership. He advised the two owner states to constitute management board for the hospital to forestall further complications on the ownership right of the hospital, adding that members of the board should come from the two states and must include members of the union.
Also, he lamented that the management of the hospital did not give attention to the welfare of the workers of the hospital, just as he called for the employment of more professionals in the hospital to boost service delivery.
