OWERRI—The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has been commended for sustai-ning all the programmes geared towards the health of women and children in Imo State.
Imo State Immunization Officer, Mr. Adolphus Okoro, who made the commendation while speaking on the successes of the National Programme on Immunization in the state, also gave a litany of facilities and programmes executed by UNICEF.
He said: “Imo State was initially given one ‘walk-in cold room’ and 15 solar freezers, courtesy of UNICEF. “The cold room was installed in the state cold store, while the 15 solar freezers were distributed to some local government areas, in addition to what they had before.”
According to him, the state also received another consignment of 30 solar freezers from UNICEF in 2014, which were distributed to static health facilities in Imo.
Okoro said: “UNICEF also sent 69 solar direct drive refrigerators through the National Primary Health Care Agency, NPHCA, trans-ported the equipment and brought in their engineers to install them.”
